What I am thankful for

• A few thoughts on thankfulness on this my first Thanksgiving ever •

I often forget to be thankful for all the little things. Like a new pair of wooly socks, my husband heating up the bed (he travels a lot and it’s so cold when he’s not here) and my children playing and laughing out loud together. That extra cup of coffee on a sunny Sunday morning and our home at night when my kids are in bed, my husband is quiet and I get to be alone with my thoughts for a little while.

For the first time ever, I’m celebrating Thanksgiving, and I somehow think this could easily end up being one of my favorite holidays. No presents, no religion, no decorations. Just good food enjoyed together with people you love, while you think about all the things you should be thankful about. I’m cooking a huge organic turkey, roasted purple potatoes and 5 other things that I haven’t even tasted before (what is stuffing actually and why doesn’t it go inside the turkey?) and I can’t wait to sit by that table and hopefully create some great memories and moments with my favorite people. →

Before falling asleep yesterday both my daughters told me what they feel thankful for. I didn’t ask them, but after working with the subject at school I think they both felt inspired.

All their sweet little thoughts inspired me and while I was laying in my youngest’s tiny bed, waiting for her to calm down and fall asleep, I made my own list of what I am thankful for.

So here they are. Our 3 little lists of things that we are thankful for.

Eleanor

I am thankful for my school.

I am thankful for my teacher.

I am thankful for my family.

I am thankful for our home.

I am thankful for having friends.

I am thankful for the sun. I love when I can feel it heating me up.

I am thankful for getting food everyday. Some children don’t.

I am thankful for my sister. She can be annoying but she’s also really cute.

I am thankful for my room.

 Alma

I am thankful for my big sister, I love her.

I am thankful for my school.

I am thankful for my daddy and mummy, they play with me.

I am thankful for my little friends.

I am thankful for the moon. I want to go on an airplane when it’s nighttime so I can go really close it.

Me

I am thankful for all those tiny moments that are so easy to not take notice of, but which actually makes life so much better.

I am thankful for having 2 daughters who love each other dearly. (Right now the oldest one is giving the youngest 10 kisses goodnight)

I am thankful for second chances.

I am thankful for being able to live a life where I can find space to explore my own creativity.

I am thankful for my ability to learn from my mistakes and getting to know myself better every time.

I am thankful for sweater weather. I love summer, but there’s nothing better than the first night where temperature drops just a bit and it’s time to put on a light wooly jumper.

I am thankful for best friends. The kind where even after months of separation, you pick up right where you left off.

I am thankful for my family. No explanation needed.

I am thankful for my parents. Because even though I’m an adult and I parent myself, they can still solve almost any problem.
