Preparing for a long summer Holiday

12 school days left before the calendar says summer vacation, and my to-do list of things I need to do before spending my next two and a half months with my daughters, just keeps getting longer and longer. Work projects which need to be finished, deadlines that need to be held, birthday parties that need to be arranged, playdates and sleepovers just waiting to be coordinated and wardrobes that have to be sorted. A few days after school is out my daughters and I leave for a very long vacation in our home country and before going, I always try and sort out both mine and their wardrobe.

What do they no longer fit, what do they no longer wear and which pieces have been so popular that they’ll need mending or replacements?

It always turns out that the most popular pieces in their wardrobe are also the most simple and comfortable ones. The easy cotton dresses, T-shirts and thin cardigans they use as an extra layer on colder days and skirts in solid colors that can easily be combined with any top, is what is on constant rotation and barely gets dry before they’re back in use. And I get them. Who wants to wear something stiff and uncomfortable when the weather is hot and humid. So we stick with what we know works best and have stopped feeling bored when we buy more or less the same pieces over and over again. Like the loose dresses, stretchy leggings, long-sleeved t-shirts and knitted cardigans from Serendipity Organics that my children have all been wearing since newborn.

My two eldest daughters have come to like the ritual of going through their closet. They try on almost every piece of clothing they have, and while we try and sort out what to sell and what to give to charity, we always engage in a small conversation about where the clothes came from, what they are made of and who will be the next child to wear it.

This blog post is made in collaboration with Serendipity Organics from where Evelyn is wearing thisjumpsuitand this cardigan, Alma is wearing this cardigan and this dress and Eleanor is wearing this dress.

Beutiful post! I love sorting my childrens clothes there is just something so fufilling about an organized closet. May I ask where the wooden camera is from?

Yes:-) It really doesn’t get much better than a fully organized closet!
The camera is from Fanny & Alexander http://fannyandalexander.co.uk/products/ and is still one of my daughters’ favorite toys!

      xx

I always love reading about your adventures with your 3 daughters and this time you have definitely inspired me to go and sort out my children’s wardrobe.
I love the stripy romper and need to get the same for my 2 year old!
