DIY Doll Dress

3 years ago I started a small busiess, Little Kin Studio,  designing and selling handmade waldorf inspired dolls, all ethically produced by artisan women in South America.

Today we have sold thousands of dolls and our Little Kin Studio  girls, boys and animals live all over the world. And there’s nothing we love more, than knowing how children play and have fun with what we make.

To make things even more fun, we have designed an easy DIY Little Kin doll dress for you, to make with your little ones. It will fit all your Little Kin Studio dolls and bunnies and probably also a few of your other teddies.

WHAT YOU NEED

– 2 pieces of cotton fabric about 11″ x 9 1/2″ each

– Sewing machine

– Scissor

– Pins

– Measuring tape

– Sewing elastic about 1/3″ wide

 HOW TO MAKE IT

1.

Secure all 4 sides on both pieces of fabric with a zigzag stitch or by using an overlocker. We chose the easy way, a wide zigzag stitch.

2.

Lay the two pieces of fabric on top of each other, right sides facing eachother, and sew along the short side of the fabric, using a 1″ seam allowance. 1 1/2″ down from top of the fabric, leave a 2″ wide gap on both sides. This will be used as holes for the arms.

3.

With an iron or using just your fingers, open up and press down the seam allowance.

4.

Fold down the top 1/2″ to create a tunnel. Stitch along the edge but leave a 1/2″ opening. This is where you’ll be inserting the elastic.

5.

With a safety pin insert the sewing elastic into the tunnel. Tighten the elastic band just enough so the head opening fits over the head of your doll. Make a knot on the sewing elastic and let the knot slip into the tunnel.

6.

Fold the lower edge of the skirt towards the wrong side to reach your desired length of the dress (this is best decided by trying the dress on the doll). Stitch the hem with a straight stitch, and now you’ve finished your very own Little Kin Studio
doll dress.

We would love to see what you make.
